Injuries happen. That’s a fact. But what do you do when you’re hurt? Most people will completely stop going to the gym and start back up when they heal. Well I’m here today to tell you that you have the wrong outlook! There are a million different things to do inside the box that don’t involve your injured part. Come in whether you have a broken leg or are completely healthy! 😉
All too often the comment I hear is “Oh I hurt my ankle so I didn’t workout at all for a month and a half”. There’s no reason to lose a big chunk of your fitness because one of your body parts is injured! This is the chance to make other weaknesses your strong points. Terrible at back squats and hurt your wrist? Perfect opportunity to back squat more. Sprained your ankle and have a weak core? Do sit ups and strict toes to bar until the cows come home. Of course, most people’s circumstances aren’t as black and white as that, but you get the point. There is always something else that you can be working on.
I know what you’re thinking, as I’ve heard this excuse many times as well: “I didn’t want to annoy the coach with making a whole new workout just for me while he/she is trying to coach a full class.” Our job as coaches incorporates modifying and scaling workouts for whoever shows up to our class, not just the fully healthy folks. So please come in and we will create an entirely different workout for you if necessary! I speak for many coaches when I say that programming workouts is one of the most fun aspects of being a coach, and this lets us practice that skill even more!
This short post was meant, if anything else, as a PSA to shift your mindset about what you can and should be doing while injured. I’m sure you’re also aware that you won’t be wasting money by paying for a gym membership that you don’t use! So again, don’t let an injury stop you from coming in and getting your fitness on! We’ll see you soon!
